Reading Time
Estimated minutes to read the whole text. Based on word count and average reading speed. Your actual time may differ.
Choose a book, record where you are, and set a daily goal. Your progress is stored in localStorage in this browser; it is not uploaded to a user account.
If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

The Reading Companion provides honest estimates of a book's length and structure before you start. It calculates reading time based on word count and typical reading speeds. Actual time will vary with your pace.
Each book's text is divided into sections, which may reflect chapters, parts, or other divisions. The average sentence length gives a sense of prose style—longer sentences often suggest a more formal or descriptive style.

The number of sections in the text. This can help you plan reading breaks or locate specific parts.
Average words per sentence. Higher numbers indicate longer, more complex sentences.
The Reading Tracker helps you plan a sustainable pace for a book you have chosen. It records progress in pages only—not in sections, minutes, or chapters. You set a current page, a total page count, and a daily page goal. The tracker then estimates how much time remains and how many days it will take to finish.
For many books, the archive does not provide an official page count. In that case, the tracker estimates the total pages by dividing the word count by 250 words per page. For By motor to the Golden Gate — Reading Notes (id 302), the word count is 69,357, so the initial estimate is about 278 pages. You can replace that estimate with the total shown by your own reading app or physical edition, which may differ.
The accuracy of the tracker depends on the total page count. If you are reading an ebook, your app likely shows a page count based on its own formatting. Use that number for a more precise estimate. If you are reading a print edition, use the page count from the book itself.
The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it to fit your schedule. A goal of 20 pages per day for By motor to the Golden Gate would mean finishing in about 14 days (278 divided by 20, rounded up). If you have more time, you might set a higher goal and finish sooner; if less, a lower goal extends the project.
The tracker also shows the estimated remaining time in minutes, proportional to the total reading time. For By motor to the Golden Gate, the estimated reading time is 302 minutes. If you have read 100 pages, the remaining time would be about 302 × (178 / 278), or roughly 193 minutes. That gives you a sense of the total time investment.
Progress history is stored in your browser's localStorage, so no account is required. The tracker remembers your current page and goal between sessions, as long as you use the same browser. This makes it easy to update your progress each time you read.
The tracker does not record sections or minutes as progress. Only page numbers matter. This simplicity is deliberate: it keeps the focus on the physical act of moving through the book, one page at a time.
If your reading pace changes, you can update the daily goal or the total page count at any time. For example, if you switch to an edition with different pagination, adjust the total. If you find that 20 pages a day is too much, lower the goal. The tracker recalculates the estimates instantly, so you always have a realistic view of your progress.
